    **Job Summary**

    Performs all routine and special Cytogenetics and/or FISH procedures, microscopic analysis, and maintains quality control. With minimum supervision, Cytogenetic technologist participates in trouble shooting, updating accessioning, current methods, and training of junior personnel when cleared by Supervisor. Position is ONSITE only.

    **Schedule:** Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, onsite.

    **Technical Responsibilities**

    + Routine Procedures:

    + Tissue culture procedures

    + Harvesting

    + Slide making

    + Slide banding

    + Automated imaging and karyotyping procedures

    + Karyotypes

    + Reagent preparation-ensures proper reagent preparation and reagent labeling.

    + FISH processing

    + FISH probing

    + FISH scoping

    + Trouble Shooting:

    + Performs and evaluates trouble shooting procedures independently or by instruction.

    + Documents all corrective actions as needed.

    + Quality Control:

    + Documents daily performance criteria of reagents and equipment.

    + Evaluates acceptability of results with signatory review.

    + Evaluation of modifications for improvement of current methods.

    + Assists in the validation of new test methods/instrumentation/reagents.

    + Participates in training junior personnel.

    **Administrative Responsibilities**

    + Record Keeping:

    + Patient worksheets

    + Quality control records

    + Procedure modification trials

    + Participates in training junior personnel.

    **Environment/Safety**

    + Responsible for the knowledge and practice of safety SOP’s in the laboratory.

    + Complete all required EHS training.

    + Wear appropriate PPE as required.

    + Comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, LC EHS policies / procedures, and the requirements of accrediting organizations.

    + Conduct work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

    **Personal Work Contacts**

    + Reports to and takes direction from the Supervisor and Manager.

    + Takes direction from the professional and medical staff.

    + Trains and/ or assists the technical staff assigned to Cytogenetics/FISH laboratory.

    + Interfaces with other laboratory and operational departments for specimen processing and other cooperative efforts.

    + Maintains a pleasant, cooperative, and respectful relationship with co-workers and all staff.

    **Job Qualifications**

    + Bachelors in Medical Technology.

    + Bachelors in chemical, physical or biological science with 6 months of experience.

    + CG (ASCP) certification preferred.

    + 2-3 years of experience preferred in a Cytogenetics field/ or a cytogenetics laboratory is required.
