    **Purpose**

    Join our dynamic team as a Senior Wastewater Treatment Operator, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining and optimizing water treatment facilities. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you'll conduct essential technical and mechanical tasks, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of treatment and conveyance facilities.     **Accountabilities**

    + Collaborate with the operations team to execute daily tasks, including operation, maintenance, and repairs, while adhering to standard operating procedures

    + Provide training to Operators on equipment, instruments, microbiology, plant process control, and safety equipment operations

    + Engage in administrative duties, writing plant directives, recommending process improvements, and exploring new treatment technologies

    + Deliver exceptional customer service by fostering open communication with internal and external stakeholders

    + Adhere to industry safety standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements

    + Execute routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions, prioritizing tasks in the field

    + Conduct daily inspections of wastewater treatment facilities, aquifer recharge facilities, and related equipment

    + Respond to operational emergencies as required, potentially involving on-call and shift work

    + Provide technical and physical assistance to operations personnel, contractors, and developers

    + Assist customers with water-related concerns, ensuring quality, delivery, and addressing odors and vector control

    + Coordinate all work efforts within the framework of company safety policies and OSHA regulations

    + Offer direction to peers and subordinates in routine day-to-day work activities

    **Education and Experience**

    + 5+ years' experience in plumbing, well operation, distribution, collection water, and/or wastewater treatment

    + Minimum 12 months experience as a field Operator II or equivalent

    + ADEQ Grade 3 Operator License in Wastewater Treatment required

    + Specialized knowledge of wells, pumps, motors, chlorine generators, plumbing principles, and utility improvements

    + Valid driver's license, and CDL may be required

    + Ability to read maps, manuals, blueprints, and perform general math calculations

    + Strong written communication skills for documenting daily records and reports

    + Ability to provide occasional direction to co-workers in the absence of Senior Operator or Supervisor

Gilbert has two Water Treatment Plants; our North Water Treatment Plant is located at 2865 E. Guadalupe and our San Tan Vista Water Treatment Plant is located at 3695 E. Ocotillo Rd. Our current vacancy is located at our North Water Treatment Plant.

    The Water Treatment Plant Operator reports to the Water Treatment Plant Utility Supervisor. The primary function of a Water Treatment Plant Operator is to operate the water treatment plant including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system or manually. Conduct minor plant and equipment maintenance including general housekeeping and provide assistance to maintenance staff. Perform laboratory analysis and jar test to determine optimum chemical dosages. Additionally, the Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for keeping log books, lab books, lab reports, midnight daily total reports, inspection reports, backwash logs and updating ozone database.

    The individual selected will operate and monitor water treatment plant systems using DCS and SCADA computer systems, conduct visual plant inspections, monitor plant operations and processes, ability to work with and around treatment Chemicals in a safe manner, detect problems to ensure proper operation and make process decisions as deemed appropriate. Operators also assist in maintenance and repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment and machinery as necessary. Additionally, we train new employees in the operations and maintenance of Two Surface Water Treatment Plants utilizing the latest in treatment technology focused on continuous quality improvement.

    + Grade 2 Water Treatment Certification and a Grade 2 Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion.

    + Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Operator II is $28.30 - $41.04.

    + Candidates for a Level III Operator must possess the following requirements:

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 4 years or more of technical training beyond high school in water treatment.

    + 2 years of experience in public sector water distribution system and 4 years of experience in water treatment.

    + Grade 3 Water Treatment Certification and a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion.

    + Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Operator III is $30.15 - $45.23.

    The successful candidate must meet the physical standards and requirements for wearing Air Purifying Respirator (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) respiratory protection equipment. Must qualify to use protective equipment based on passing a specialized physical examination before hire date and must maintain respirator certification. Work will require climbing portable ladders and entering confined spaces. Operators work varied shifts requiring the availability to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends on a rotating schedule.

    This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.

    **Accountabilities**

    Summary The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator performs a wide variety of duties related to the operation and maintenance of pre-treatment, primary and secondary waste water treatment processes, permit compliance, and other technical support duties at the Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Plant (NIWTP) for the Nogales Field Office (NFO), Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Division, Operations Department of the United States Section, International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC). Responsibilities OPEN UNTIL VACANCIES ARE FILLED, MAY BE EXTENDED/CLOSED PRIOR TO CLOSING DATE. FIRST CUTOFF DATE IS 11/30/2023. OTHER CUTOFF DATES WILL BE DETERMINED AS NEEDED. Performs collection and testing of wastewater to determine designated physical, chemical, and biological characteristics. Prepares samples for transport to outside laboratories. Increases or decreases chemical agents based on test results. Operates wastewater equipment such as pumps, gate valves, and outlets to adjust and regulate the flow of wastewater into and out of the system.
