    Position Overview

    Chandler was the first city in Arizona to receive accreditation of our water and wastewater operations by the American Public Works Association, the toughest accreditation to achieve in the industry. The Utilities Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's water treatment plant, 32 water wells, and 19 booster station facilities and share another water plant with the Town of Gilbert.     Prescott, Arizona – Fann Contracting, Inc - Northern Arizona’s leading heavy-civil and heavy-highway contractor is searching for a Hot Mix Asphalt Plant Operator to join our team for local and statewide projects. Preference given to candidates with 3 or more years of experience with hot plants. Annual wage may range between $75K to $90K or more DOE. Annual bonus may also be available. This is a full time, permanent position with benefits. Subsistence (travel pay) of $63 to $73 per day is available when you travel for work please ask for details.

    Our family-owned 60+ year company specializes in mass excavation, rock handling, underground utilities, private and public infrastructure, mobile asphalt plants and paving, aggregate crushing, and much more. Our projects include public and private entities including ADOT, FHWA, BIA, city and county municipalities, private residential and commercial developments.

    The Asphalt Plant Operator position is a leadership role for overseeing all hot mix plant operations to include safety, repairs, maintenance, and production requirements. The successful candidate will have knowledge of hot mix asphalt business and operations. Hot plants may be set up at remote locations or at professional construction sites, requiring the operator to professionally communicate verbally with others in person, using 2-way or CB radios and phone. Candidates must have the ability to quickly read and assimilate printed materials, and to maintain focus despite numerous interruptions.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + 3 or more years operating a hot mix plant, or multiple years working at a hot plant.

    + Experience with computerized hot plant controls & systems.

    + Solid mechanical, fabricating, welding, electrical, and equipment operating skills needed.

    + Statewide travel within Arizona required as all of our hot plants are mobile.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    + Exhibits a safety first mentality.

    + Accurately and timely completes all paperwork.

    + Reviews daily employee timecards, accurately phase costs, and approves employee time.

    + Proactively identifies and remedies all plant/worksite hazards.

    + Must ensure plant is operating at safe peak performance, output and temperature.

    + Responsible for manufacturing various asphalt products according to mix design and customer/project specs.

    + Leads a crew of up to 4 employees.

    + Has good base knowledge of aggregates and mix designs.

    + Familiarity with mobile hot plant controls for safe start-up and shut down.

    + Adjust and refine hot plant controls to regulate, burner, bins, flow of materials, conveyors, oil pumps, drum and silo.

    + Has good math skills for ordering materials, calculating tons required etc.

    + Frequently performs inspections of all plant equipment, tools, wiring, and materials output.

    + Perform general maintenance and repair on all plant machinery, and equipment.

    + Operates all related heavy equipment including 40-ton crane, loaders, skid steer, forklift, and dozer, compressors, generators etc. as necessary.

    + Work with Materials QC personnel to ensure that mix is produced to required specification.

    + Maintains proper employee PPE gear for all plant/site work to be performed.

    + Orders/makes arrangements for oil, mineral admixture and other materials delivery

    + Good communication skills with employees, supervisors, and customers.

    + Ensure compliance with all OSHA, MSHA, health, safety and environmental regulations.

    + Operates computer controls to batch material.

    + Operates computerized scales/load-out systems to assure appropriate tonnages are dispensed.

    + Inputs and manipulates asphalt mix designs within the plant computer controls.

    + Issue delivery tickets to truck drivers, some of which may be subcontractors/customers.

    + Completes all hot plant reports including daily plant maintenance, production and inventory information.

    + Should have the ability to fabricate, weld and repair worn or broken parts.

    + Use cutting torches and associated gear.

    + Trains/teaches crew members to perform maintenance and supportive duties.

    + May also perform other duties as required.

    SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED:

    The successful candidate will have the ability to:

    + Be an advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures.

    + Wear a body harness and full safety gear while working at heights being tied off.

    + Work in all weather conditions/in constant exposure to outside elements,

    + Obtain MSHA training as required for the job.

    + Must be able to work on uneven terrain in wet or dry conditions.

    + High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.

    + Ability to use a laptop, familiarity of Word documents, spreadsheets, emails, etc.

    + Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.

    + Work ANY shift, day, swing, and night with frequent overtime as required by jobsite specification and schedules.

    + Work with constant/frequent exposure to moving shakers, screws, conveyors, pugmill, machinery and other equipment.

    + Oversees mobilization of the entire plant from one project to the next.

    + Collaborate with crew, supervisors and owners in a complex production environment.

    + Work in awkward positions, confined spaces to crawl, squat and climb ladders.

    + Communicate professionally with others, both verbally and in writing.

    + Ability to lift, carry, manipulate, load and unload parts and pieces up to 50 pounds.
