**Description**

Under general supervision, provides technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned projects and programs, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost.

+ Reviews, investigates and develops appropriate recommendations regarding assigned projects

+ Serves as Project Manager or technical advisor, on small-to-medium site construction, expansion or modification projects

+ Evaluates and administers contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment

+ Collaborates in site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated areas

+ Assists in the development and evaluation of Appropriation Request (AR) for capital funding

+ Develop laboratory capabilities for classification and identification of different types of bacteria in the leaching solution for all of the different active sulfide stockpiles

+ Develop monitoring techniques to evaluate biological health and community populations inside actively leaching stockpiles

+ Develop new concepts to improve biological activities and populations in active leaching stockpiles

+ Improve old processes within leaching to enhance biological growth and activities in actively leaching stockpiles

+ Develop analytical methods for identification and quantification of anaerobic bacteria used for remediation efforts of non-active stockpiles

+ Evaluate potential opportunities in biological suppression for remediation efforts of non-active stockpiles

+ Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's degree (focused on environmental sciences including but not limited to the following related areas; Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Geochemistry, Natural Resources, Physical Science, Biological System Engineering, Soil Science or other related fields) **and** three (3) years of experience, **including** experience in environmental research, including laboratory and field activities, **OR**

+ Master's degree focused on environmental sciences including but not limited to the following related areas; Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, Geochemistry, Natural Resources, Physical Science, Biological System Engineering, Soil Science or other related fields **and** experience in environmental research, including laboratory and field activities

+ Proficiency in the principles and practices of metallurgical engineering and chemical processing

+ Knowledge of biology, chemistry, surface and ground water hydrology and environmental engineering

+ Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office suite tools

+ Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices: recognizing hazards and aligning appropriate response to hazardous situations

+ Ability to multi-task in a technical arena

+ Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions

+ Highly skilled in managing engineering projects

+ Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

+ Possesses a strong technical education, professional demeanor and desire to learn

+ Skill in interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments involving unique or complex aspects which significantly affect projects

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Data analysis experience

+ Ph.D. with laboratory experience

**Criteria/Conditions**

+ Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

+ Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

+ Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

+ Work is in an office, lab or mine setting which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

+ Employee is regularly required to read, speak, hear, type, sit, stand, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms

+ Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

+ Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing

**What We Offer You **

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently **$79,000-$109,000.** This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
