Responsibilities Job Summary This position directs the activities of the Central Sterile Processing Department to provide clinical management and cost efficient operational direction for processing assigned instruments, sterile supplies, and equipment for Surgery and other Hospital Ancillary Departments. Provides leadership and coordination of staff development, interdepartmental relationships and a resource for CSPD functions at assigned campus. Promotes an environment that supports excellence in practice by leading and directing implementation of quality services that support nursing practice; tracks results. Fosters collaborative partnerships with members of the organization, the Central Sterile community, and the local community. Uses evidence-based knowledge in decision making to improve and maintain high-quality, safe, cost-effective patient care as it relates to sterilization processes and materials management Ensures that supplies for cases are pulled in an accurate and timely manner. Assures the timely processing/sterilization of instruments and supplies for all procedural areas as necessary. Assumes 24-hour accountability and responsibility for the assigned CSPD unit(s) and sterilization at the direction of the Senior Clinical Director and works collaboratively with the clinical directors in the patient care areas which are served. Serves as point person and primary resource for assigned departments. Works through CSPD Supervisors to manage assigned personnel. Collaboratively plans, establishes, and revises work assignments as necessary. Interviews, selects, and recommends hiring of personnel. Initiates recommendations for changes in classification, salary action, promotion, demotion, transfer and termination. Administers staff performance evaluations. Assists in resolving employee problems and administration of appropriate disciplinary action. Develops and maintains systems for management records, reports, department policies and procedures to comply with Federal and State regulatory agencies, accreditation agencies and other regulatory bodies. Assists the Senior Clinical Director in budgetary planning for all assigned units, identifying annual capital and operational budget requirements. Identification of FTE determinations, staffing patterns and skill mix to optimize departmental and organizational goals. Manages department budget to budget targets. Projects and plans for future program development, use of space and equipment for assigned areas. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree or 4 years' work related experience Required Experience 2 years supervisor experience in CSPD/Surgery Required Licenses and Certifications Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or equivalent. Required Certified Health Leadership (CHL) or equivalent. 1 Year Required
