Job Description

The Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) seeks a communications coordinator to assist and support outreach efforts for the Center. This person will support the development and production of communications, outreach, and other deliverables to build awareness of and engagement with CHER and associated initiatives.

This position will work under the direction and oversight of the CHER Communications Assistant Manager and as part of a larger team within the unit focused on outreach and communication, including writing about technical topics for a lay audience. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, grammatical skills that support editing and proofreading, and a basic understanding of best practices in communication.

Writing - 35%

• Responsible for writing original content for newsletter; conduct interviews and engage in background research to support articles.
• Obtain photos and videos to accompany written content for media platforms.
• Develop written content for CHER and affiliated websites.
• Write about technical topics for a lay audience and general public.
• Assist with writing and reviewing content for broad distribution via MailChimp.
• Assist with producing press releases as directed.

Social Media Engagement - 25%

• Create and schedule regular social media posts.
• Develop individualized campaigns for social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, YouTube).
• Synthesize platform analytics to boost engagement and reach.
• Create and develop unique approaches to sharing and disseminating public health information in collaboration with researchers.
• Develop and uphold a consistent CHER visual identity through social media.
• Design and create digital assets using Adobe InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom.

Website Maintenance - 20%

• Create website content including page designs and written content.
• Assist with fact-checking, updating, and uploading publications to WordPress Publication database.
• Maintain the CHER website (as part of a team).
• Collaborate with researchers and staff on updates for research project pages.
• Provide accessibility assistance for research documents and digital content added to website.

Editing - 15%

• Proofread and copyedit content created by others using best practices and style guides.
• Collaborate with Communications Assistant Manager on researching features and background content.

Other - 5%

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's Degree.
• 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
• A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communication, marketing or related field.
• Working knowledge and or experience in using WordPress and Adobe platforms.
• Experience in higher education, and or communication processes in higher education communities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of the use of style guides.
• Basic knowledge of best practices regarding accessibility in printed, web, and electronic communication.
• Knowledge of best practices in writing a press release.
• Knowledge of website design and maintenance, especially using WordPress.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and PowerPoint.
• Intermediate skill level using Adobe Creative Suite.

Skills

• Demonstrated excellent writing skills for a variety of audiences.
• Skill in fact-checking using standard reference sources.
• Use of social media for business applications.
• Grammatical skills required for editing and proofreading written materials.
• Interpersonal skills needed to conduct thorough interviews.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Salary

Salary range begins at $48,285. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
