About the Department/College
The Department of Occupational Therapy is located on NAU's Phoenix Bioscience Core campus, where students have access to cutting edge technology, facilities, and labs. The department offers the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree in a Traditional or Hybrid path, preparing students to work with clients across all stages of life in a wide range of settings. This accredited degree is the only public and non-profit graduate program in Arizona.
About the Position
Northern Arizona University's entry-level doctoral Occupational Therapy (OT) Program, located in the downtown Phoenix Bioscience Core Campus, invites doctorally prepared candidates to apply. The responsibilities of successful candidates will include teaching traditional or hybrid courses related to one or more of the following topics: occupational therapy theory and practice models, occupational therapy foundations of practice, the occupational therapy process across the lifespan, and other specialized topics aligned with program needs
The traditional path option includes in-person teaching scheduled Monday through Friday. The hybrid path option includes online learning as well as in-person labs eight weekends per semester. In addition, both traditional and hyrbid pathways will require clinical faculty to engage in student advisement, applied scholarly activities, professional service, and additional duties that support the program's mission and growth.
Responsibilities Include:
• Engage in ongoing productive communication with faculty and department chair.
• Teach and co-teach courses ensuring adherence to program goals, mission, vision and standards.
• Exemplify and promote the curriculum's mission and learning outcomes through the delivery of the curriculum.
• Participate in formulating and implementing the department's strategic plan in alignment with the college and university.
• Participate in department wide accreditation requirements and renewals.
• Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
• Maintain current professional certification, licensure requirements, and membership in professional associations.
• Maintain professional practice knowledge base and clinical expertise needed to help learners prepare for contemporary occupational therapy practice.
• Use current research findings and scholarly works to improve OT education and practice.
• Promote professionalism by modeling and encouraging professional behaviors inside and outside the educational setting.
Four openings available:
• 9 month full time (1.0 FTE) or 12 month (.75 FTE) in traditional path starting 8.25.25
• 12 month full time (1.0 FTE) in traditional path starting 7.1.25
• 9 month full time (1.0FTE) or 12 month (.75 FTE) in hybrid path starting 8.25.25
• 12 month full time (1.0 FTE) in hybrid path starting 5.1.26
* All of the above clinical faculty positions will be based out of Phoenix Arizona in the downtown Phoenix Bioscience Core Campus, starting August 2025.
Minimum Qualifications
• 3 years or more of clinical experience as an occupational therapist.
• Eligible for OT licensure in Arizona.
• An earned doctoral degree in OT or related field from an institution regionally accredited by the USDE.
• Ability to identify 2 to 3 steps in building a scholarship agenda evidenced in your cover letter.
Preferred Qualifications
• Current National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification.
• Clinical expertise in one or multiple of the following areas: pediatrics, functional anatomy / neuroscience, adult rehabilitation, geriatric practice, upper extremity.
• Record of effective teaching and advising at the university level.
• Record of effective fieldwork supervision, capstone mentoring, and/or other student mentoring.
• Record of sustained professional service and professional leadership.
• Experience with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
• Significant scholarly or creative work and/or professional achievements in area of specialization.
• Certified practice-related specialization as recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or other nationally recognized certification process.
Compensation & Benefits
Commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
