POSITION PURPOSE

The Safety Compliance Specialist provides specialized analytical and business support to a wide range of programs in the Food Safety and Environmental Health and Safety functions. Key responsibilities include reporting, analyzing, and interpreting data to spotlight compliance and communicate to business partners. This role requires strong analytical, oral and written communication skills, proficiency in spreadsheet application, basic food safety knowledge, and good understanding of recalls. This position interacts with suppliers, Category Managers, and regulatory authorities on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

*Provides support to Safety, Food Safety, and Quality Assurance Programs, including but not limited to training, audit, inspection, and program management.
*In collaboration with department team members, drafts and maintains department documentation.
*Develops and implements food safety intervention programs to address store locations performing below regulatory performance standards.
Analyzes audit data and other relevant metrics to identify stores presenting greatest risk.
*Co-develops Master Cleaning Schedule, SOPs, HACCP forms/logs, training resources and Learning and Development projects.
Develops and revises retail food safety policy/HACCP documentation and variance programs as needed.
Provides frequent training to store and corporate-level team members.
*Supervises Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and chemical sanitation programs.
Works directly with service vendors to ensure identified issues are promptly addressed.
Assesses vendor performance and reviews metrics to ensure that service levels and contractual obligations are met.
*Consults on Food Safety related maintenance and equipment issues to ensure regulatory compliance.
*Serves as the main point of contact for county health inspections of store locations. Reviews findings, identifies root cause, creates action plans and validates corrections made.
*Actively participates in District Team Leader, District Partner, and Store leadership meetings.
*Conducts store visits to ensure vendors and/or store teams have mitigated safety issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Science required. Food Science, Nutrition, or related field preferred with a minimum of one or more (1+) years of experience as a business analyst and/or Safety, Food Science, Quality Assurance function, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of personal computer office software such as Microsoft applications, particularly MS Excel including VLookup, formulas, pivot tables, and graph/chart development.
Knowledge of basic food safety practices.
Knowledge of statistical analysis fundamentals preferred.
Knowledge of food product labeling regulations preferred.
Food safety and quality assurance principles, programs and practices.
FDA and USDA regulatory requirements
Food manufacturing operations for produce, meat, seafood, bakery, and/or shelf stable products.
21 CFR, Part 110, Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI)
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)
Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
State and local regulatory requirements

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to provide functional project leadership.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships and teamwork.
Demonstrated abilities in attention to detail, problem solving, analytical planning, self-motivated, and organization skills.
Make persuasive presentations by communicating technical information in a non-technical manner appropriate to the audience
Strong analytical skills.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Current ServSafe Certification or equivalent.
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certification or ability to pass in first 90 days is required.
British Retail Consortium or Safe Quality Food Certification is preferred.
Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Certification is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Employees may occasionally experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

Viewing computer monitor

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in normal office environment. This position will require regular travel to store locations.
